Research Experience for Undergraduates
Undergraduate Physics Institute at Hampton University

Overview

The Department of Physics at Hampton University is a premier research institution that maintains state-of-the-art on-campus research centers for medical, particle, nuclear, and optical physics. The Department of Physics also actively engages in international research projects with partners including the Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, MIT, and CERN.

This summer the Department of Physics will provide select undergraduate students hands-on research opportunities with faculty in one of Hampton University's research centers or at the nearby Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Exceptionally qualified students may also be selected to spend all or part of the summer program conducting research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as part of the Electron-Ion Collider Collaboration.

Students completing their freshman, sophomore, or junior years may apply, with preference given to Physics majors. UnIPhy-REU is seeking students with varying levels of research experience, and students with little of no research experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Eleven students will be accepted, and all will receive a stipend, housing on campus, support for meals, and travel reimbursement upon completion of the program.

Future Program Information

UnIPhy-REU will not open to new applications for 2012. Check back in Summer 2012 for updates on the future of the program.
